Why Blaze Colors Matter
During firearm season, visibility is everything. In the split second it takes to raise a rifle, blaze orange or pink ensures that what another hunter sees isn’t a flash of movement — it’s a clear sign of a fellow outdoorsman or woman.
According to hunter safety organizations, wearing blaze orange or blaze pink can reduce hunting accidents by more than 50%. The color cuts through brush, fog, and dim light, making you instantly recognizable at long distances.
Beyond tradition, it’s a mark of respect for your fellow hunters - a shared commitment to safety and stewardship of our hunting heritage.
Blaze Pink: The Evolution of Hunter Safety

For decades, blaze orange was the gold standard. Then came a new option blaze pink - equally visible to the human eye and scientifically proven to stand out in the woods.
And fittingly, Wisconsin –– home of DSG Outerwear — was the first state in the nation to legalize blaze pink for hunting back in 2016. It was a landmark moment, not just for women in the outdoors, but for everyone who values both safety and style in the field.
Since then, a growing number of states have followed Wisconsin’s lead. As of today, the following states officially allow fluorescent blaze pink (in addition to blaze orange) for hunting:
🦌 Colorado
🦌 Georgia
🦌 Illinois
🦌 Louisiana
🦌 Maryland
🦌 Minnesota
🦌 Mississippi
🦌 New York
🦌 South Dakota
🦌 Virginia
🦌 Washington
🦌 Wisconsin
🦌 Wyoming
These states recognize that blaze pink performs just as well as blaze orange - and that offering hunters more options help make safety more accessible, inclusive, and appealing.
How Much Is Enough?
While regulations vary by state, most require at least 400-500 square inches of solid blaze orange or pink visible above the waist, plus a hat or head covering that’s visible from all sides. Always check your local laws before heading out.
Whether it’s a jacket, vest, or cap, the goal is simple: be seen, stay safe, and help others do the same.
